Description
Walt Weiss (b.1963) is a former switch-hitting, excellent defensive shortstop, and manager, who was a 1st round pick in the 1985 MLB Draft by the Oak. A's. He played 14 seasons for the Oak. A's (1987-1992), Marlins (1993), Rockies (1994-1997), and Braves (1998-2000), hitting .258 in 1495 games, with 1209 hits, 25 HRs, and 386 RBIs. Weiss was the A.L. 1988 ROY, hitting .250, with 3 HRs, and 39 RBIs, and had his best season in 1996, hitting .282, with 8 HRs, and 48 RBIs. He made his only All-Star team in 1998. He played in 4 NLDS, 4 ALCS, 2 NLCS, and 3 W.S., hitting .190 in 46 games, with a HR, and 7 RBIs. After his playing days, Weiss was Asst G.M. of the Rockies (2002-2008), and managed the Rockies (2013-2016-record of 283-365). He currently is a coach with the Braves, since 2017.
