Description
This is an original,
“Key Date”
circulated, low mintage, copper,
“One-Quarter Skilling”
from the Kingdom of Sweden. It is dated 1807, during the reign of King Gustav IV Adolf, who ruled Sweden from 1792 until he abdicated on March 29, 1809.
Sweden only struck this type ¼ Skillings in 1802, 1803, 1805, 1806, 1807 here and 1808. All the other dates had mintages between 3,217,000 and 8,141,000 coins. This is by far the lowest mintage date for the type.
It is also a
“Clipped Planchet”
Error coin. A minting error that is not real unusual on copper this old from Sweden. The punch that pushed this planchet out of the sheet of metal fell slightly over a previously pinched out hole. Then it was struck by the dies and as you can see, circulated.
Weight: 6.57 Gram, 26 Millimeter, Copper. Mintage: 641,000.

Obverse:
Crowned C A 4 monogram for Gustav IV Adolph. •
The Three Crowns of Sweden, they have been a national symbol since the time of Albert of Mecklenburg who became King in 1364.
Reverse:
¼ • SKIL LING • 1807 • Crossed arrows. • Clipped flan at 6 o’clock.
The Coin:
A veteran, it earned the wear, marks and dirt. Fully original, it has never been cleaned and is scarcer as such. A coin that has a lot going for it, a low mintage key date, a minor mint error that does not affect the design, and not cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
